Save Toolpaths

Saving a toolpath writes it out in the file format your CNC machine needs to cut the job. Toolpaths can be saved one per file, or combined into a single file for machines with an automatic tool changer.

Basic Usage

  1. Select the toolpath to save from the Toolpath List.
  2. Open the Save Toolpaths form.
  3. Choose your Machine from the dropdown.
  4. Choose the matching Post Processor. The list shows only the post processors associated with the selected machine.
  5. Click Save and enter a filename.

Note

Post processors are linked to machines in the Machine Configuration. If the post processor you need is not listed, choose Add Post-Processors from the dropdown to associate it with the current machine.

Output Options

  • Selected Toolpath — saves only the currently selected toolpath as a single file.
  • Visible Toolpaths to One File — saves all visible toolpaths into one file. The toolpaths must all use the same tool, or be destined for a machine with an automatic tool changer.
  • Visible Toolpaths to Multiple Files — saves each visible toolpath as a separate file sharing a common prefix.

Automatic Tool Changers

Machines with an automatic tool changer (ATC) can run a single file containing several toolpaths, each with its own tool number. To prepare one:

  • Use the up and down arrows to set the order in which the toolpaths run.
  • Tick the visibility checkbox for each toolpath you want to include.
  • Select Output all visible toolpaths to one file.
  • Check that each toolpath's tool number is shown correctly in square brackets.

The post processor validates the tool changer configuration when you save, and reports an error if any tool numbers are missing or duplicated.
