Crop Vectors

The Crop Vector tool acts as a 'cookie-cutter', allowing you to trim any number of vectors against a single trimming vector.

Watch tutorial: How to Trim Vectors

Basic Use

Select the vectors you wish to trim, then click on the tool to activate it.

Use the floating toolbar to choose whether you want to keep the vectors inside or outside of your trimming vector.

Hover over a vector to preview the result. The parts of the vectors that will be trimmed and retained are shown in solid red, while the parts that will be removed are shown muted and dashed.

Click on the vector you wish to use as your trimming vector to complete the cropping action.

Tip

The trimming vector itself is the shape you click on last — it defines the cookie-cutter outline that all selected vectors are cropped against.

Options

Trim Inside / Outside

This option determines which part of the selected vectors is kept relative to the trimming vector. Trimming inside retains the portions of the vectors that fall within the trimming vector and removes everything outside it. Trimming outside retains the portions that fall outside the trimming vector and removes everything within it.

Refit Curves

The cropping operation polygonizes curves, replacing them with a series of straight line segments. As a result, any curves passing through the trim will be made up of many small segments once the operation is complete. With this option enabled, the tool will curve fit the resulting vectors after trimming has completed, restoring smooth curves in place of the polygonized segments.
