Create Fillets

Fillets or radiuses can be added interactively at points where any two spans on a contour meet.

Creating Fillets
To use the filleting tool we select the icon from the drawing tab. Choose a radius for the fillet and the type of fillet you would like to use.
When the mouse cursor is near a node that can be filletted, the mouse cursor changes to show a check-mark ✓:

When in the 3D View, the software will in addition show you a preview of the fillet it will created before you click to confirm the creation of the fillet.
When the mouse is hovering over the fillet point, before clicking, you can also type in a new value to use as the radius of the fillet, and then press Enter to confirm the value before then clicking to create that fillet.
Fillet Type
Normal Fillet
This creates a standard corner fillet based on the Radius defined, typically this would be used for design purposes and not for editing a slot for fitting purposes. Below left the image shows the vector before filleting the two inside radii, on the right is the filleted version


Dog-Bone Fillet
This creates a circular cut-out style of fillet, the circles will be placed so the upper right part of the circle touches the original sharp corner and are created with the Radius specified. This option should not be used if the slot width and the tool are similar in size. Below left is the vector showing the slot before filleting, on the right is the filleted version using the 'Dog-Bone' option.


T-Bone Fillet
This creates a circular cut-out style of fillet, the circles will be created with the Radius specified. This option should be used if the slot width and the tool are similar in size so the slot can grow out to the side to ensure there is space for them to fit. Below left is the vector showing the slot before filleting, on the right is the filleted version using the 'T-Bone' option.


The placement of the fillet is an interactive process; you can choose which side of the 'corner' the T-bone filet is placed. If you click on a 'corner' the fillet will be placed automatically on the longest side. By clicking to the side of the corner you want the fillet placed you can choose which side the fillet is placed on.


Removing Fillets
Fillets can be removed in the same way that we add fillets: move the cursor over the fillet that you wish to remove.
If this fillet can be removed then the cursor shows a cross to indicate that it is possible to remove a fillet:

When removing fillets the software does not store what kind of geometry the fillet was created from. It always defaults to using straight lines to return the fillet to a sharp corner. As such if the fillet is across multiple spans or is derived from arcs or Bezier curves then it will not go back to its original state and instead it will remove the radius and extend two straight lines to create the new corner.
Usable In Both Views
This tool can be used in both the 2D and 3D View.
2D View offers a more direct way to view your vectors while the 3D view offers more flexibility to work with Vectors in 3D Designs and to make use of the Edit Boxes.

When in the 2D view, a number of the forms tools will be driven by options in the form only.
- Middle - Move the vectors (Hold Alt and move the selected objects in one axis)
- Middle - Click a second time to switch to Rotational center. Click and drag the Rotational Anchor to reposition the Rotational Center of the current selection.
- Corner (White) - Scale the vectors proportionally (Hold Alt for scaling non-proportionally, Shift to scale around the centre)
- Edges (White) - Scale the vector in one axis (Hold Shift for scaling proportionally)
- Corner (Black) - Rotate the vectors (Hold Alt to Rotate in 15° increments) about the Rotation Center.

In the 3D view, there is an expanded number of handles to directly edit the vector within the view, without needing to use the creation form on the left.
In the 3D View, the Handles are:
- Middle - Move the vectors (Hold Alt to Move the selected objects in one axis)
- Middle - Click a second time to switch to Rotational center. Click and drag the Rotational Anchor to reposition the Rotational Center of the current selection.
- Corner (White) - Scale the vectors proportionally (HoldAlt for scaling non-proportionally, orShift to scale around the centre)
- Edges (Black) - Scale the vector in one axis (Hold Shift for scaling proportionally)
- Rotation Arrow (Top Black) - Rotate the vectors (Hold Alt to rotate in 15° increments)
- White circles are properties unique to this tool to allow direct mouse editing of values in the tool form from within the view.
When you select a Transform Handle, it will activate the appropriate Edit Box for that Handle.
If you need an exact value for a field while dragging it, release the mouse button and type in the desired value, followed by Enter to accept the new value.
3D view controls
When applying a fillet within the 3D view, the cursor changes to reflect the fillet type you have selected;




The resulting fillet shape with the current settings are previewed in red when you hover your cursor over a corner;

When this is shown, clicking and dragging the Left Mouse Button outwards from the corner will increase the radius of the resulting fillet and you can decrease this by moving the cursor back towards the corner.
This is reflected by the value changing within the Floating Field. As with other tools, you can enter an explicit value into this on the keyboard.
When De filleting in the 3D View, the cursor will change to show an angle with a cross next to it, with the original 90° corner previewed in red;


If you enter an impossible value, then you will be shown a Limit caution Icon next to the cursor;

The cursor will still indicate that this is going to apply the largest
fillet of this type possible for the geometry.
If the corner does not consist of two sides but instead includes bezier curves or Arcs, the fillet tool will indicate that it's not possible to apply a fillet with this strike through Icon;
